Pensado’s Place with mixing engineer Marcella Araica
Check out the latest Pensado’s Place episode! In this week’s “Into The Lair” – Dave’s studio and mixing techniques part of the show – he talks about how he handles bass and kick drum in a mix, and how he makes them work together without getting into each others’ way, using EQ and side chain compression. He also demonstrates a trick that utilizes a simple low-pass filter, in case you don’t happen to have a separate subwoofer to check the low-end on.
This week’s guest is Mix Engineer Marcella Araica, who mixed tracks for artists such as Madonna, Timbaland, Duran Duran, Usher, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears or Pink, among others. She talks about how she received the nickname “Turtle” early in her career, and how she had to really get her technical chops together to be able to work quickly and efficiently, for which she earned a high reputation later.
There’s “Batter’s Box” again – Dave’s quick quiz with the guest, and there’s “Corner Office” as well, where people can ask questions online from Marcella.
If you’re into the technical side of music, you’ll enjoy this show.
